According to the latest survey by the Chartered Institute of Building (CIOB), 92% of members had been affected by theft (21% reporting weekly site robberies) [1], and a 2023 survey by NFU Mutual reveals over half (55%) of contractors have experienced theft from a building site[2].

And, while the risks may have grown and the thefts become increasingly sophisticated, investing in security systems such as CCTV security cameras or motion detection isn’t always commercially viable.

Consequently, Red Security Systems is seeing a dramatic rise in the number of clients looking to install temporary, deployable security systems that allow them to ‘lift and shift’ security systems from site-to-site with minimal outlay and disruption.

Critically, these solutions are designed to be installed at remote, off-grid, sites. For example, solar-powered CCTV cameras allow sites to be protected 24/7 without mains power, and sim cards enable continuous WIFI coverage, so that sites can be monitored around the clock from anywhere in the world. Using AI technology, the cameras also sound an alarm and send an alert via app when the perimeter is breached (with users able to set the days/times they want the cameras to trigger).

Red Security MD, Yann Maciejewski commented:

“We’ve seen an almost three-fold increase in demand for deployable systems – mainly from building contractors or pop-up retail sites. In the case of construction sites, those that we visit (and those most at risk) are often remote and left for long periods without access to mains power or WIFI, making site security even more challenging.

Importantly, these systems are quick to deploy and, because clients can choose to lease the equipment from us (with the option to buy-back), they can reduce overheads whilst benefitting from much-needed flexibility”.

But as Yann explains, it’s not just the reduced costs that are fuelling demand for these solar-powered systems “sustainability is a key consideration for many construction firms, especially those with large numbers of sites. Solar powered cameras not only ensure uninterrupted coverage, but reduce CO2 emissions, without compromising on camera performance”.
